A former Palm Beach County Commissioner is now officially the Executive Director of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

Gov. DeSantis earlier this month nominated Dave Kerner to the position on an interim basis and his Cabinet on Tuesday made the move official.

"I believe he will serve the Department well as the permanent Executive Director. Each of your offices have had the opportunity to meet with him individually. I move to approve his appointment as Executive Director of DMV."

With that, the motion was seconded and Kerner was given the position.

When the governor nominated Kerner, he appointed Palm Beach County Republican Party Chair Michael Barnett to the Democrat's former seat, giving the County Commission a GOP majority for the first time since 2006.

Another key move by the governor and his cabinet was the reappointment of Mark Glass as the Commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

He replaced former Commissioner Rick Swearingen, who retired last May.

A moment of levity when DeSantis moved to keep Glass in the position and started to accidentally call the FDLE the "FDA."

That's when the governor said Glass "would probably do a better job at the FDA as well given what they've done but one step at a time."

After some brief laughter, DeSantis was given a second to his motion and Glass got the reappointment for the next year.
