Canada Buys Billboards In Florida To Oppose Tariffs

OTTAWA -- The Canadian government is buying billboards in Florida and other states to oppose President Trump's tariff plans.

One message that appeared on I-275 in Tampa reads "Tariffs are a Tax at the Gas Pump". Others call tariffs a tax "on your grocery bill."

Spokesman John Babcock with Global Affairs Canada calls it a strategic investment in its U.S. trade relationship, to "increase understanding... and counter misinformation." He calls tariffs "a tax on hard-working Americans in their daily lives" that "lead to increased costs on everyday essentials, including fuel and groceries."

This comeds as President Trump announces he's imposing new 25 percent tariffs on foreign-made cars and trucks. Canadian prime minister Mark Carney calls that a "direct attack" on Canadian workers.

The billboards are up in the Washington D.C. metro and 12 states outside the Beltway, including Florida.
