New information has emerged about Phoenix Ikner, the suspect in the Florida State University (FSU) shooting that occurred on Thursday (April 17). Ikner, a 20-year-old student at FSU, is the son of a local sheriff's deputy and had access to one of her weapons, which was used in the incident. The shooting resulted in two fatalities and at least six injuries before police shot and apprehended Ikner.

According to NBC News, the incident began around 11:50 a.m. near FSU's student union. Ikner was involved in the Leon County Sheriff's Office's Youth Advisory Council and had participated in several training programs. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell stated that Ikner refused to speak with investigators following his arrest.

FSU Police Chief Jason Trumbower confirmed that the handgun Ikner used was purchased by his mother from the sheriff's department. There is speculation that Ikner may have had a second weapon, possibly a shotgun, during the shooting. The legal implications for Ikner's mother are unclear, as the situation involves an adult suspect, as reported by NewsNation.

FSU President Richard McCullough expressed his condolences to the victims' families and praised campus police for their quick response, which prevented further tragedy. The university has canceled classes and events through the weekend, and counseling services are available for students and staff.

The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact the FBI. Governor Ron DeSantis has vowed to seek justice for the victims and support the FSU community during this difficult time.
