LED ZEPPELIN: Whole Lotta Gear
Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones is auctioning 52 pieces of recording equipment from his studio. The sale is being handled by Soundgas, a UK company that specializes in the sale and servicing of vintage and exotic electronic instruments and recording equipment. They released a statement saying, "John is still very active musically -- writing, recording and performing -- but no longer requires so much studio equipment - most of which he has owned from new. He feels it should be in the hands of people who will put it to good use, so it is offered here without formal provenance, with the intention that it continues to be used as intended."
However, one of the items will need a little work. The Thunderbass amplifier he used while a member of Them Crooked Vultures, the band with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme, is in need of new speakers. Jones left the amp at Grohl's house, but after it was lent out, it came back with blown speakers. But regardless of its condition, it's estimated to sell for upwards of $2000.
The auction is online now at Soundgas.com.
In other Jones news, the first performance of the 20-minute song cycle he wrote for mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly will premiere this Wednesday at London's Wigmore Hall.
THE DOORS: Continuing to Ride the Storm
The Doors are the latest act to participate in the "Song Around the World" series from Playing for Change, the multimedia project that aims to connect the world through music. Their two surviving members -- guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore -- are joined by more than a dozen musicians from around the world, including Willie Nelson's sons Lukas and Micah Nelson, Foo Fighters keyboardist Rami Jaffee, and producer and bassist Don Was, on the band's 1970 song "Riders on the Storm." This new version also features a tribute to the late Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, as well as archival vocals from Jim Morrison.
The video for the song, which will premiere this Friday at Noon ET on the Playing for Change YouTube channel, will help support the Playing for Change Foundation’s first music program to be established in the U.S. It was organized in partnership with First Peoples Fund, an Indigenous-led non-profit organization. The group seeks to uplift Indigenous communities and give them a platform to share their history and voices. Previous artists to re-record their songs for Playing for Change include The Band's Robbie Robertson with "The Weight," Steve Miller
"Fly Like an Eagle," Jackson Browne "Doctor My Eyes," Dr. John "Iko Iko," Carlos Santana "Oye Como Va," and John Paul Jones on Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks."
THE BEATLES: Check That
Last month, during an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, Sean Lennon, the youngest of John Lennon's two sons and his only child with his second wife, Yoko Ono, said, “I’m just doing my best to help make sure that the younger generation doesn’t forget about The Beatles and John and Yoko. That’s how I look at it.” Asked if they could be forgotten, he said, “I do, actually, and I never did before.” But after what Lennon felt were media outlets twisting his words, he took to X to say, “I am not immediately worried about anyone forgetting The Beatles. I was speaking more broadly about culture in general, and how we do forget about things when we don’t actively work to preserve them.“For example, everyone used to know Don Giovani but now opera houses having been closing all over the world en masse. Everyone used to be able to quote Shakespeare and now not so much. "The Beatles music is timeless and immortal in my view. But nothing is guaranteed and we have to choose what aspects of our culture to keep thriving for future generations.”
Lennon is currently working on his third album with The Claypool Lennon Delirium, his band with Les Claypool of Primus, as well as a song with Paul McCartney's son James, and Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey.
PETER FRAMPTON: Came Alive 50 Years Ago
Fifty years ago to the day, Tuesday, January 6th, 1976, Peter Frampton released Frampton Comes Alive. The two-record set elevated him to instant superstardom thanks to it selling more than six-million copies during 1976 alone, but it also became the best-selling live album of all time. Along with spending 10 weeks at number-one, it spun off a trio of radio singles -- "Show Me the Way," "Baby, I Love Your Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do." To date,
Frampton Comes Alive has sold more than eight-million copies in the U.S. Looking back on the album, Frampton says, "With an incredible band, good songs, great shows and amazing audiences we recorded something special. Thanks to all who have kept my music alive!"

Jethro Tull's Anderson Lashes Out Against AI
Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson is warning fans about artificial intelligence aiming to trick them. In a post on social media, the musician said "it's come to our attention that fake fan websites and social media accounts are displaying AI-generated content purporting to be by me." He went on to call the content "insidious, childish, and dishonest," telling fans to ignore it. Anderson accepted that AI-generated content targets more than him and his band but called this the "tip of the iceberg in terms of a future where AI at its worst is accepted and tolerated in society. " Jethro Tull will begin their 2026 tour on February 11th in Munich, Germany.
OASIS: No Bond in Their Future
Noel Gallagher has shot down rumors that the producers of the James Bond franchise wanted Oasis to do the theme for the next film. In an appearance on TalkSport on Monday Gallagher said, “This James Bond thing? What, Oasis? Nah." But he added that he would be honored to write a theme song for the series. "It would be an absolute honor, and I think those kind of things should be done by Brits, not Yanks.” Of course, producers still need a new actor to play James Bond, a script and a director, so a theme song is probably low on their priorities.
Ted Nugent Slams ‘Good Friend’ Tom Morello + ‘Idiots’ in Green Day
Ted Nugent criticized several rockers for their political views during a recent podcast, including Jack White, Eminem, and Green Day, whom he labeled as "idiots" for their opposition to Donald Trump. In a recent YouTube video, the rocker praised White's energy, saying he delivered "real rock 'n' roll" and "real Detroit piss and vinegar." On a scale of one to ten, Nugent gave White a four or five, saying performers like Sammy Hagar and Angus Young are tens. Nugent also took aim at Tom Morello, accusing him of being part of the machine he claims to rage against. Despite his criticisms, Nugent praised Yungblud as the "real McCoy" and commended his collaboration with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
