ROLLING STONES: "First Single" Drops Saturday

The Rolling Stones, under the alias "The Cockroaches," will release a "white label" pressing of the first single off their new album, Foreign Tongues. Titled "Rough and Twisted," it will be available at select indie retailers across the U.S. on Saturday. The single will be officially released in May, and there's talk of them staging "listening events" for the album before it's released in June. Foreign Tongues, produced by Andrew Watt, is the follow-up to 2023's

Hackney Diamonds. It contains songs recorded last year as well as tracks left over from the Hackney Diamonds sessions.

News broke last week that they were up to something when posters started going up around London that read, "The Cockroaches" along with a QR code, which takes you to a website,

TheCockroaches.com. On the site is a photo of the poster with a clock above and the date, April 11th. If you sign up for email alerts, it takes you to a site registered to Universal Music, the band's record label. In the late '70s and 'early '80s, the Stones, billed as either The Cockroaches or Blue Sunday and The Cockroaches, did surprise shows in Toronto (1977), Atlanta (1978) and Worcester, Massachusetts (1981). And, when you sign up for email alerts, written above the sign in boxes is "Who the f**k are The Cockroaches?" in the same font as that was on a t-shirt Keith Richards wore in 1975 asking, "Who the f**k is Mick Jagger?"

The Rolling Stones were set to tour Europe this year but scrapped those plans when it was reported that "Keith Richards didn’t think he could commit and wasn’t keen on a big stadium tour for over four months.” The Stones last performed in their native England in 2022, and their last show was on July 21st, 2024, in Ridgedale, Missouri.

PAUL McCARTNEY: And in the End...

Not only is Paul McCartney scheduled to be the final musical guest on season 51 of NBC's

Saturday Night Live on May 16th, but look for him to be announced as the final musical guest on the last episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS on May 21st. McCartney will be releasing a new album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, on May 29th, so what better way to plug it than on two big national broadcasts. And, speaking of the new album, he will release a "white label" edition of the album in conjunction with Jack White's Third Man Records. McCartney's last album, 2020's McCartney 3, was released on limited-edition exclusive red vinyl through the label.

Robert Plant Does Surprise Zep Song For "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert"

With Robert Plant's journeys away from straight ahead rock, with Alison Krauss and Saving Grace, it may be tempting to think his rock days are well behind him. Wednesday night he proved he still remembers his Led Zeppelin roots, with a surprise performance of "Ramble On" on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." With his band Saving Grace, Plant first tackled their song "Higher Power," but returned for a low-key but still riveting rendition of the ep classic "Ramble On," from the bands 1969 album "Led Zeppelin II."

QUEEN: News of the Universe

Queen guitarist and astrophysicist Dr. Brian May received a thrill from the cosmos Wednesday when NASA played Queen and David Bowie's 1982 song "Under Pressure" to wake up the crew of Artemis II on their mission around the moon. He posted the moment on Instagram and said, "Happy to be waking up the heroes in their space ship rounding up their amazing trip around the Moon!! Happy Landings guys!! You rock!!" May has been closely following the voyage and re-posting on Instagram many of the photos taken from the astronauts aboard.

He writes, “Hello Commander Wiseman! Massively enjoying your exploits and the wonderful photos you are sending back to us... I know you guys are kinda busy, but I have an impertinent request. Could you take stereoscopic pictures for me -- for us 3-D enthusiasts? All you'd need to do is take two photos instead of one, separated by a few minutes if you're looking at the Earth or the moon, or maybe a few seconds if you're flying around the back side of the moon, close by.” In the meantime, May has been creating stereo photos from what NASA has been posting. Artemis II is scheduled to splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego this Friday at 5:07 p.m. local time.

GREEN DAY: Film Gets Title Change

The film that features Green Day as a key plot point has undergone a name change. What used to be New Years Rev is now called Nimrods, inspired by the band's 1998 album Nimrod. The title change comes after the film was acquired by Inaugural Entertainment. What hasn't changed is the plot, which is about "three pals who journey to Los Angeles, mistakenly believing that their band is opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Their roadtrip is a rowdy and mischievous jaunt across the country filled with adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van." It was directed by Lee Kirk and stars Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee and Fred Armisen. It includes Green Day performances done especially for the film. The film had its premiere last September at the Toronto International Film Festival. No release date has yet been announced.

FRAMPTON & MORELLO: Roaring Together

Peter Frampton has released a second song off his forthcoming new album, Carry the Light.

"Lions at the Gate" features a guitar duel with Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine.

"We just thought, 'What guitarist would be best for a protest song?' We knew we wanted Tom on the record somewhere because I'd asked him and he said, 'I'd love to.' So, it was just finding the right track and when we came up with 'Lions at the Gate,' it was obvious." And as for those dueling guitars at the end of the song, Framtpon says Morello challenged him.

"I had played my lead part and sent it to Tom, and he just matched me note for note, played in harmony with me. And then when I got it back, I realized there was one part that, 'I better up my game there.' So, I did do one part three-quarters of the way through just to answer him 'cause he was gettin' really fantastic playing going there. What a mind. Yeah, he definitely was clued into this track, that's for sure. A great guy, an amazing player, and I support him 100-percent in his endeavors politically." "Lions at the Gate" can be found on YouTube and Carry the Light will be released on May 15th. And, in conjunction with the album, Frampton has teamed with Victrola for a limited-edition -- 100 -- Carry the Light turntable. He autographed each one, which will set you back $425. TRIUMPH: Set to Make Their Triumphant Return

When Triumph announced their reunion tour in December, the plan was to open it in their native Canada. Well, they decided to warm-up south of the border with two Florida shows this Friday in Orlando, followed by Hollywood on Monday. This marks the first time that the three founding members, singer and guitarist Rik Emmett, drummer and singer Gil Moore, and bassist Mike Levine will tour together since 1988, although Levine might not be at every show due to health issues. Emmett, who hasn't toured since 2018, says the time was right. "There's this compelling thing of like a gravitational pull of these songs that, you know, you just kind of want to try and get another crack at being out in the world and making this a series of communal events occur where you're getting this chance to interact with these people who love the songs so much, you know. And Gil seems like an energizer bunny. He's ready to take these things on. And so I kind of go, 'Well, alright, if he's gonna do it I guess they're gonna drag me along to, you know."

But this time out the power trio will be transformed into a power sextet with the addition of guitarist Phil X of Bon Jovi, who replaced Emmett in 1992, drummer Brent Fitz, and bassist

Todd Kerns (in place of Levine), both of whom played with Triumph when they performed last June prior to game two of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers in Edmonton, Alberta. Following these two U.S. dates, the tour will shift back north for the original announced opening of April 22nd in Sault Ste. They'll be in Canada through May 8th in Calgary before returning to the U.S. for 15 dates from May 13th in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois through June 6th in Boston. Fellow Canadians April Wine are the opening act.
