It's Sting's Birthday!
The former school teacher is one of the greatest songwriters in rock history with a catalogue that spans decades. Hitting the scene with The Police, the punk band turned new wave ruled that charts from the late 70's to the mid 80's, and at the height of their run the members chose to go their separate ways and Sting would embark on a solo career that would make him as successful as he was with the Police.
The man has received 17 Grammys, three Brit Awards, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and four nominations for the Academy Awards. His song "Every Breath You Take" has become the most-played song in radio history, as he was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police, and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
With the Police and solo Sting is one of the world's best-selling music artists, with over 100 million records sold, collaborating on songs like "Money for Nothing" with Dire Straits, "All for Love" with Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart, "Desert Rose" with Cheb Mami, "Rise & Fall" with Craig David, and "You Will Be My Ain True Love" with Alison Krauss. Add to that his "44/876," collab with Shaggy, won him a Grammy for Best Reggae Album.
Happy Birthday Gordon, every little thing you've done is magic.
