HBO is releasing a new documentary from their Music Box film series, dedicated to one of the most controversial topics in rock!
Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary is coming out on November 29, and chronicles the rise of soft-rock in the 1970s, more specifically it will dare to take on the subject of what is and what is not Yacht Rock.
Now this is something of a dispute in music circles, because the label gets slapped on way to large of a variety of groups and singers to be correctly placed. The film will focus on artists from like Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Toto, and Christopher Cross, and there is the crux. The view that anyone who's using a Rhodes Keybord in their song is such a vague definition that its laughable at times as to what is or is not Yacht Rock.
The movie was directed by Garret Price, who made Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage, Daisy Jones & the Six, and Love, Antosha< and features Prince Paul, Thundercat, Questlove, Mac DeMarco, and Fred Armisen.
