The Who's Kieth Moon's nickname of the loon is one that's well deserved.
Over is life and career with the band, Moon has done everything destructive that a man can do on the road with the band, but on one magical night his antics ended up giving a fan the moment of his dreams.
Moon's lifestyle began to test his reliability, during the 1973 Quadrophenia tour. At the U.S. debut, at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California, Moon consumed a mixture of sedatives and brandy, which caused Moon to pass out during "Won't Get Fooled Again". The band had to stop playing, and the roadies carried Keith offstage, and took him to the showers, then injected him with cortisone. Once awake, they sent him back onstage after a thirty-minute delay, but inevitably Moon passed out again during "Magic Bus", and again was removed by the roadies from the stage. Pete Townshend eventually asked, "Can anyone play the drums? – I mean somebody good?" over the mic, and Scot Halpin, came up to play the rest of the show. Halpin was an ammeter local drummer but he did get the band through the rest of the show, as Moon continued to recover backstage.
Ultimately, Moon's behavior would get the best of him as he passed away before the end of the decade, but for that night, his manic ways would give a fan the moment of a lifetime, playing for one of the biggest bands in rock history.
