The World Of Music Mourns The Death Of Brian Wilson

The world of Rock is devastated by the loss of Brian Wilson.

The Beach Boys founder has died at the age of 82,

"devastated to hear of Brian Wilson's passing. He had such a profound effect on me.” The KinksDave Davies said. “The Kinks played the Hollywood Bowl with the Beach Boys on our first us tour. ... Years later, Brian and I used to run into each other at the movies with our daughters and we'd catch up. I'm devastated. I loved his singing. He was an innovator and his writing prowess was remarkable. I loved him."

Wilson's death comes after the death of Sly Stone, who was also 82.

"Oh no, Brian Wilson and Sly Stone in one week – my world is in mourning. So sad," wrote Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones.

Brian was the last of three Wilson brothers to pass, following Dennis in 1983 and Carl in 1998.

"When Carl passed, it was like losing a brother – and it feels the same today," Randy Bachman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive said. "They are still going today with their incredible legacy with Bruce Johnston and Mike Love. We lost one of the greatest composers and messengers who took jazz harmony, put it to a Chuck Berry beat and made a new genre of music. Some of the best singles in the world. Dennis, Carl and Brian are all together now – other worlds to sing in."

Brian Wilson is one of the greatest songwriters and composers in Rock music history. Refusing to be locked into the narrow growth of the Surf Rock he helped create, the genius of Brian Wilson would be defined in redefining rock music as it existed at the time. He would usher in the age of album oriented rock with the Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” and expand his surf rock into an exposition of the American way of life. The album would influence the Beatles to create Seargent Peppers, as both bands pushed passed the confining 3 minute mold of a song and touched on to the human condition with their new layered way of recording. Wilson is a Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer and one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
