The year before the revolutionary year of 1971, Led Zeppelin continued their musical assault on the charts with Led Zeppelin III!
Recorded in three locations, the album further expanded Zep’s musical versatility, as John Paul Jones emerged playing a wide range of keyboard and stringed instruments, which gave the album a less Hard Rock driven feel like the previous two releases. Despite the progression towards folk and acoustic music, the album did have heavy rockers like the classic "Immigrant Song", which did not collide with the acoustic-based "Gallows Pole" and "That's the Way".
The album was an immediate commercial success and topped the UK and US charts, despite critics initial confusion over the change in musical style. Regardless of Led Zeppelin III is a turning point in the band’s sound that kept them rolling through as the decade’s biggest band.
