Bay County, FL - Governor Ron DeSantis visited Bay County on Monday to announce that the back-to-school sales tax holiday will now be a permanent feature in Florida.
This tax exemption will apply throughout the month of August and covers a variety of items, including clothing, shoes, school supplies, and personal computers.
DeSantis outlined the specific tax-free items: most school supplies under $50, apparel under $100, learning aids priced at $30 or less, and personal computers with a maximum price of $1,500 for non-commercial use.
Secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families, Taylor Hatch, emphasized that the new policy provides essential relief for all caregivers, including parents, grandparents, and foster parents.
“This initiative reflects Florida’s commitment to supporting caregivers and ensuring every family starts the school year with the resources needed for success,” said Hatch.
Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas also praised the governor’s announcement, highlighting the significance of the initiative in empowering teachers and parents.
In addition to the tax holiday, DeSantis discussed other Florida policies, including the state’s top rankings in education and talent development.
He also addressed various state and national issues, including immigration enforcement and the regulation of artificial intelligence, voicing concerns over federal attempts to limit state control over emerging technologies.
