Brevard County, FL - Five Brevard County schools have been recognized among Florida’s top 50 elementary and middle schools in the latest statewide rankings released by U.S. News & World Report.
The rankings are based on math and reading proficiency rates from state assessments and take into account socioeconomic factors to identify schools that excel across diverse student populations.
Freedom 7 Elementary School of International Studies in Cocoa Beach ranked 13th among Florida elementary schools, with 91% of students proficient in math and 89% in reading.
The school has a student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1, an enrollment of 408 students, and 12% identified as economically disadvantaged.
Manatee Elementary School in Viera ranked 46th, with 85% math proficiency and 86% reading proficiency.
It maintains a 16 to 1 student-teacher ratio, an enrollment of 876 students, and 21% of students classified as economically disadvantaged.
West Melbourne Elementary School for Science ranked 48th, reporting 85% proficiency in both math and reading, with a 16 to 1 student-teacher ratio and 18% of students identified as economically disadvantaged.
Among middle schools, West Shore Junior/Senior High School in Melbourne ranked 6th statewide, with 100% math proficiency and 96% reading proficiency.
Edgewood Junior/Senior High School on Merritt Island ranked 8th, with 95% math and 94% reading proficiency.
According to the report, Brevard County continues to demonstrate strong academic performance across multiple grade levels compared to other Florida school districts.
